Matlock Golf Club Junior Open sponsored by Morclean Ltd
A highly successful and for once a
dry day for Matlock Golf Club Junior Open on Thursday 30th May 2013 generously
sponsored by Morclean of Chesterfield. The course was playing long and
difficult after all the recent rain but the scores reflect the very good level
of play by many of the 50 strong field.
Once again a very tight
finish for the prestigious Matlock Junior Open Cup. Two boys - James Lewis of
Burton on Trent Golf Club and Jordan Moseley of Chevin Golf Club both scored 77
gross, both had 10 handicaps, both finished on 67 nett. After a countback on
the back 9, then the back 6 and finally on the back 3 it was won by James Lewis
with Jordan taking the 1st nett prize in Div. 1
George
Hodson-Walker from Ashbourne GC also had a near miss with a gross 76 nett 68 and
finished with 2nd nett in Div. 1 with Ashley Wain of Burton in 3rd place gross
77 nett 70.
1st Gross was won by James Wadsworth of Chesterfield
GC with a 73 who also took the Daily Telegraph Qualifier prize. 2nd Gross was
taken by Jamie Booth of Chesterfield GC with a 75.
In the Boys
Div.2 - 1st - George Bryan of Horsley Lodge GC scored 90 hcp 20 nett 70 on a
countback from James Bacon from Shirland GC 85 -15 nett 70 and 3rd place taken
by James Sharpe of Chesterfield GC 95 - 23 nett 72.
Matlock
Junior Captain Emily Morris took the Girl's Gross prize and the Daily Telegraph
Qualifier prize. 1st nett was won by Abbie Newman also of Matlock with a gross
97 hcp 22 - nett 75. Rebecca Williams of Coxmoor took 2nd place with 100 hcp 20
- nett 80.
In the Domestic Handicap Division played from the
junior tees over 11 holes was 1st Joe Wright, Tapton GC with 24 stableford
points, 2nd Luke Chapman - Matlock GC 23 points and 3rd James Truelove-Cooke 22
points.
Girls longest drive - Emily Morris. Boys nearest the
pin George Hodson-Walker. Boys longest drive - James
Bacon
Prizes were presented by Peter Morley - Morclean Ltd, Mr
Ian Marr Matlcok Club President and Mr Eric Grattage Club President.
