The  DRY function is used with a vacuum bag and can be operated with or without the filter, whereas the  WET function collects wet waste into a liquid shut-off valve below. As the vacuumed water rises in the collection canister, the ball is pushed up by the water, and once at the top, the Vac stops working, avoiding water getting into the vacuum motor.
