The Diary of a Cleaning Show Exhibitor - Post-Show Roundup
The Diary of a
Cleaning Show Exhibitor
by Becky - Morclean Marketing
It’s the Monday after the Thursday before. As the red eyes
turn back to their vibrant white and the body clocks begin to tumble back into
the same rhythm, we thought now would be an appropriate time to reflect back on
The Cleaning Show 2015 at the London Excel.
Day 1
Today’s day in three (in true Simon Mayo style): Bored of
M1.
Day 1 began with a relatively chilled lie in as we didn’t
need to be in London until around 2pm. Keith would be setting off with the Binwash
machine to meet us at the Excel for set up. Until then, the day would be spent
drinking tea, stopping at service stations and counting cars on the M1 and M25.
We set off on our Cleaning Show adventure from Chesterfield
around 10pm for a leisurely stroll down. Knowing the M1 had now installed their
long-awaited Stealth cameras and anticipating a car-park towards the north
circular, we left ourselves plenty of time.
After a long journey, we arrived at the Excel to meet Keith
around 2pm and begin to setup our stand. The operation ran smoothly with setup
being one of the quickest we’ve had! Hats off to the team at Quartz for their
smooth organisation on setup day!
After setup was complete, we headed back in the car to the
hotel, ready for the first day of the show.
Day 2
Today’s day in three: Busy little Binwash.
The first day of the show began with one of my favourite
‘things’ to do in the London – the tube! I love the tube, especially when it’s
one of the more complicated journeys. We ended up taking the Central line from
Newbury Park to Stratford, the Jubilee line from Stratford to Canning Town,
then the DLR to Prince Regent’s. It certainly wakes you up in a morning that
trek! The hustle and bustle of a busy tube gets your blood pumping for a full day
on your feet… or so they say.
Arriving at the show on the first day can be a little
intimidating. It’s a huge show with exhibitors from all over the world; as soon
as those doors opened at 9.30am our anticipations disappeared as we were
dropped into a wave of Binwash interest. Our little machine didn’t stop picking
up bins all day!
They say time flies when you’re having fun, and before we
knew it, it was 5pm – the first day was over. It was then back on the tube to
the hotel, where a lovely fat, tender steak awaited us with a nice glass of
red, cheers!
Day 3
Today’s day in three: Aircon sore throat
Don’t you just love it when you can’t turn off the aircon in
a hotel room and you wake up with a dry, sore, tonsilitus style throat? Yep,
well that’s what happened to me on Wednesday!
The day went like this for me, feeling rather drowzy from no
sleep and tablets for throat;
Wake up. Green Tea. Pumpkin seeds. Central Line. Jubilee
Line. DLR line. Oh we’re here. Set up. Get coffee. Need loo. Shows open. “Hello
how are you.” Would you like information emailing? Need any help? Lots of
people. Crowd has huddled. Binwash popular. Lunch time. Need sandwich. Fastest
window cleaner competition. Guinness Book of World Records. More people. Coffee
run. Even more people. Gosh it’s 5pm. Show close. DLR line. Jubilee Line.
Central Line. Green Tea. Bed.
There was so many people there on the second day, that it
just flew by in a blurry flurry of vacuum dust… We had some excellent enquiries
and leads and lots of friendly faces, old and new. We just had to wait to see
what day 4 would bring…
Day 4
Today’s day in three: Make it count
Day 4 and everyone was feeling the effects of 3 days on the
road and exhibiting by now. Still, we were feeling very positive about the show
in general with the visitor numbers and quality of enquiries we were receiving,
so we had no hesitation that the 3rd exhibition day would go as well
as the other two.
The show opened at 9.30am; we were pleasantly surprised when
a flurry of visitors passed through the doors at bang-on opening time – usually
day 3 is the slower day at exhibitions but The Cleaning Show seemed to buck
this trend somewhat.
By lunch time again we’d collected some solid, quality leads
for our machine and met some friendly faces genuinely interested in our machine
and what we did as a company. I can vouch that time really does fly when you’re
having fun because before we knew it, it was close down at 4pm and everyone was
packing away and dismantling their stands. The take-down was as smooth as the
set-up and we were packed away and back on the north circular heading for the
M1 before we knew it.
Arriving back in Derbyshire around 8pm, I could think of
nothing more rewarding than collapsing into my own bed with a cuppa!
All in all the week was a brilliant success but we won’t be
able to measure that success for a good few months whilst leads are followed.
Morclean would like to thank every single person who visited our stand for
information, chats, networking and demonstrations, it was brilliant to see so
many smiling, familiar and new faces enjoy our machine as much as we do. We’d
also like to thank the show organisers, Quartz, for such a smooth and enjoyable
show, and ofcourse, the Morclean team both at the show and running the ship
back in the office. It was a real team effort!
